Dee’s Camino — A Journey with Jesus

Dee’s Camino — A Journey with Jesus

Relationship, not Accomplishment

That’s what Jesus is reminding me these days.

IMG_4187After months of planning I now have only one week before I fly off to Paris, en route to this grand adventure of the Camino de Santiago. For six weeks I’ll follow the centuries-old pilgrim path from Saint Jean Pied de Port, France to Santiago de Compostella, Spain. It’s a 500-mile trek and, until a few months ago, I felt pretty sure I could do it, even though I knew the 15-miles a day average would be grueling.

I’ve been having a small issue with my foot and those pesky doubts raise their negative heads. Will it get better? or worse?! I haven’t been able to train. What if I can’t do this? What if I can’t walk those miles and have to resort to buses to get me where I need to go?

I feel the dream dying.

IMG_4462In the beginning this trip was about my celebrating a very significant birthday—AND ten years of being cancer-free.

It was about accomplishing something significant.

Things changed. First, I felt compelled to do this adventure solo instead of going with friends, and circumstances confirmed it. Gradually I realized this was something Jesus wanted us to do, just the two of us… and He has since been revealing His own version of the experience we’ll be having. One where it’s not about me accomplishing a challenge, but about me simply being with Him along the journey, regardless of how He unfolds it.

It will be about the relationship, not the accomplishment.

Soon, I’ll be boarding the plane with no clue of what’s ahead. He is a God of surprises, after all! And that’s why we call life with Him an Adventure!

As they say on The Way, Buen Camino!

images-2The YELLOW route will give you a rough idea of my travels, beginning in southern France and going, hopefully, all the way to the western coast of Spain! Thanks for your prayers!
